There are few things in this life that we know for certain but there is one thing that is irrefutably true: children absolutely adore eating sweets and candy. We know that the earth is round, that Mondays are horrendous and that children love treats! Though unfortunately, like most other awesome things in life, too much candy is incredibly bad for you and so it is important that you regulate the amount that your children consume.
Regulate the Amount of Sugary Foods That Your Children Consume
If you allow your children to eat too much sugar on a regular basis not only will they develop a sense of entitlement but they will grow some very poor eating habits at a young age and these can be detrimental to their health in the long run. By establishing clear and strict ground rules regarding sweet foods, you will be teaching them to regard them as treats and that they should be reserved for special occasions. And by special occasions I don’t mean once a year on their birthday, that would be a little too harsh even for the strictest of parents, but you should encourage them to enjoy eating healthier sweet tasting options such as fruit.
If you cripple yourself by allowing your children to run riot and eat sweets whenever they like, you will be denying yourself one of the most amazing and effective tools for controlling your children. Much like when you are training a dog, treats can be used as rewards for good behaviour and cooperation. I am not suggesting that you should treat your children like pets, but the psychological effects are very much the same.
I fell for the same trick when I was a child. My mother was very strict when it came to the amount of sweets and candy that I could consume and we very rarely had any sodas or sugary drinks in the house. When we were out shopping, on select occasions she would allow me to buy a can of coke and some sweets and that would be an incentive for me to behave myself and help her out by carrying the bags. I thank my mother for this because she encouraged me to eat well and to appreciate food and beverages that are good for you. I absolutely adore drinking water and often prefer that to a coke or a glass of lemonade.
Make Candy a Special Treat for Your Children by Customising It
The exciting thing in this day and age is that you can now buy candy online which is different to the standard candy available in retail stores. This gives parents a unique opportunity to customise candy for their children and this is particularly useful for special occasions. As a reward for doing well in their exams or for winning a sporting trophy, children can be presented with their own awesome, customised sweets. This is not only a thoughtful and delicious gift but a creative way of making candy appear to be even more special.
Regulate the sweets that your children eat and they will certainly thank you for it in the long run. They might not do so right away, but when they are healthy individuals that take care of their bodies, they certainly will.
